The resilience of citizens always has the concern of Fred Sanders. It was my motivation to become a Civil Engineer in coastal engineering at Delft University of Technology in 1983; and to add my MBA at Erasmus University Rotterdam to his academic track-record for making more impact in working life. After twenty years of being a professional in Real-Estate City development I started-up my PhD at the age of fifty to do research on citizen bottom-up participation in making cities sustainable and resilient; by which I became a Dr. in Urbanism in 2014. In recent years I visited several countries as an ambassador of the Urbanism Delft department; to create productive connections for new research to share my contribution to a greener Earth with others. My contribution is part-time because of my responsibilities in the councils of my local Water-authority and municipality; and being in supervisory boards of sustainable oriented organisations and firms.

Growing up besides the dunes inspired me to study Civil Engineering at the TU Delft.
I became a project developer, started as a project leader within a development company and after that I became a project manager within a program developing an entire district. The next few years I spend working as a regional director for the Netherlands biggest contractor and later as project director of 3 large scale districts developments in the Zaanstreek, Haarlemmermeer and IJburg at Amsterdam. My involvement here ran from the PPS discussions to leading the district concept development and the final construction of the districts.
Together with the TU Eindhoven and students from multiple countries I did an ICE-project under arctic conditions and at a never before shown scale. In 2016 I got rewarded for this project by a Finnish minister.

I grew up in Ermelo, a village on the Veluwe. As a child I was already a creative mind with an enormous urge to discover and build. Years later, after studying at the HTS in Utrecht and the TU in Delft, I started working as a lover of the built environment and as an architect in the broadest sense of the word. I am passionate and pragmatic with a huge aversion to injustice and box thinking. After having first been employed by a medium-sized architectural firm in Utrecht, I subsequently embarked on an adventure as head of R&D for a start-up in prefab construction. In addition to designing and building, I have traveled all over the world in remote areas and have stood on many mountain peaks with my brother. I have been working within my own architectural firm for five years and am now very experienced in successfully designing, engineering and managing construction projects.

Currently I am a high school student in my last year (exam year VWO). To earn some money, for example to pay for college, I work as a back-office manager for the ‘SOS Waterfront’ program. Next year I’m planning on studying Earth sciences at the University of Utrecht.

As change manager and facilitator I take people on a journey towards more sustainable and circular thinking, network development, creativity and innovation. The principles of how systems are designed - and thus also bring changes - so that people can participate in them, I apply in my existence as an entrepreneur in the company C-REALIST since 2008, as a facilitator of cooperation between government and society in assignments for provinces, ministries and municipalities.
International work has my interest, because it expends my mind.
At the moment I am, besides ‘SOS Waterfront’, involved in a European innovation program in the agricultural sector. I earn my income by doing assignments for the government to encourage residents and entrepreneurs to sustainability and greening.
